Pins of the week: Waffles

I have been cursing the fact that I gave away my waffle iron ever since Barb posted her cheese and herb waffles a few days ago.
It turns out that it’s National Waffle Week. Though I find these national food holidays totally ridiculous, who am I to quibble with the collective wisdom of these national-food-holiday-deciding people?
A few other keepers:
- Bacon + brown sugar + buttermilk + waffles = very right.
- I’m not sure that I’m 100% sold on the sweetness of these waffles, but I may not be able to resist the lure of carrot cake.
- I like to pretend that these vegan whole-wheat waffles are, in fact, healthy. At least they’re healthier.
- These pumpkin waffles (plus apple cider syrup!) are perfect for fall.

I never gave a second thought to where cantaloupes are grown.
Actually, I never even gave them a first thought.
Italy? El Salvador? China? Seriously, no clue.
But, once I moved to Colorado, summer was all “peaches peaches peaches” and “cantaloupe cantaloupe cantaloupe.”

Pins of the week: Panini
Posted on 31 August 2012 | Comments Off on Pins of the week: Panini
I love sandwiches. But I adore so-called “toasties,” as known as panini. They’re crunchy; they’re crispy; and they’re gooey. Pretty much the ideal texture combination. I’m disappointed that I didn’t realize until today that August was National Panini Month.
- I’ve never considered adding artichokes to a sandwich, much less a panino, so this chicken artichoke with TWO kinds of cheese sounds divine.
- Everything — including panini — is better with bacon.
- After all that bacon and cheese, I feel obligated to try out this lighter panino.
- This caprese panini will be incredible at this time of year.
- Nutella? Strawberries? Toasted bread? Yes, please!
