Blackberry Cream Cheese Muffins with Cardamom and Vanilla

I am in deep denial that summer is over.
Deep deep deeeeeeeeeeeep denial.
Although autumn is my favorite season, its dawn portends of the coming winter. The coming stupid winter. With its short days, bitter cold, and — worst of all — snow.
Every year, I cling to the final vestiges of summer. I delude myself into trusting that peaches, plums, tomatoes, and peppers are solely summer fruits. Since they are still in the farmers market come September, I tell myself, it cannot be autumn already.
Pins of the week: Autumn Favorites

Happy Autumn! Autumn (or, if you prefer, fall) is my favorite of the 4 seasons. The weather is brisk; the leaves turn; and some of my favorite foods (Brussels sprouts!) come into season!
Around Labor Day, my attention turns to our annual Halloween party — and, therefore, foods to celebrate the season. Which apparently means foods that contain apples and/or pumpkins.
- Where can I get a doughnut pan to bake these pumpkin doughnuts?
- I am terrified of hot corn syrup and sugar so will someone please make these apple cider caramels for me?
- These oatmeal butterscotch cookies are perfect. Not just for fall, but in general.
- Lest you think that all I do during autumn is eat sweets…how about some spiced pumpkin soup?
- When I start hiking longer routes again, I will enjoy this pumpkin crunch granola.
Hot Inferno Pepper Jelly (and announcing Can It Up!)

I am so eager to kick off Can It Up next month that I am practically hyperventilating.
Patience, grasshopper. It’s only 12 days until October 1st.
Instead, I will distract myself (look, shiny object!) by sharing the kick-ass hot pepper jelly I made yesterday.
Indeed, I was going to share a long, rambling story about going to the Wheat Ridge farmers market (a mid-week market to which I had never been, among the many benefits of joblessness), the crazy [read: knowledgeable] pepper lady (as I delightfully refer to her), and its stunning array of peppers.
Mostly, though, I am disproportionately proud that I didn’t 1. set the stove on fire or b. blind myself by touching my eyes after chopping hot peppers. Small victories.
I can’t wait any longer. Let’s talk about Can It Up.

Pins of the week: Quinoa

Apparently, this was quinoa week. No, not some so-called national food holiday. Rather, every time I turned around — or read Twitter — someone was talking about quinoa. I almost made quinoa for dinner this week, but then I was lazy and had cereal instead. Because that’s how I roll.
- Matt has been a giant fan of quinoa for breakfast lately. He will adore this quinoa with apple and cinnamon. Also, so appropriate for autumn.
- So, uh, by putting quinoa in these cheesy appetizer cakes, that makes them healthy, right? Even if they are pan-fried and slathered with aioli?
- This quinoa salad with avocado and tomato is so flexible. Perfect base with which clean out leftovers for lunch.
- I will eat anything with white beans and caramelized onions. Especially when it’s a casserole and contains quinoa.
- Quinoa + chocolate = heaven.
