Pins of the week: Moldy Cheeses
Posted on 13 October 2012 | 2 responses
I celebrated National Moldy Cheese Day this week by, uh, eating cheese. Ok, that wasn’t terribly original, but here are some moldy cheese recipes that may appear in my kitchen soon.
- It’s a little late for local tomatoes, but I have seen some decent cherry tomatoes in the store recently. Perhaps I should pick up a pint for this Gorgonzola salad.
- I’ve been meaning to break out the panini maker. A caramelized onion, mushroom, and Brie grilled cheese is a warm welcome first panino of the season.
- I can’t escape caramelized onions. In this case, a simple tart with Gorgonzola and Brie. Um, yes.
- This sweet brie and apple tart is so beautiful that I don’t feel right about cutting into it.
- Chocolate and Camembert truffles? I should have been the genius to come up with this bewitching combination.
Slow Cooker Vanilla Rum Apple Butter

There’s apple butter on my ceiling.
That’s the issue with making any kind of fruit butter on the stovetop. It gurgles; it burbles; it spits. It gets in your hair. It tries to blind you. At a minimum, you get burned. A lot.
That’s the beauty, I learned while making a second batch, of apple butter in the slow cooker. It’s never hot enough to burble. Your hair remains clean; your eyes undamaged. You are likely to emerge unscathed!

I am a tad obsessed with the slow cooker right now. Slow cooker recipes (ok, and paint colors) are all I have been searching for on Pinterest lately.
- Prepping ingredients, freezing, and then slow cooking at will?! This may be the most brilliant blog post I have ever read.
- This is my kind of slow cooking. Slow-cooked ribs with a few minutes under the broiler to lend a grilled flavor. Yum.
- I may have to make these cinnamon almonds for my dad for the holidays this year.
- Matt (a.k.a. Mr. Whole Grain) will love barley risotto. I will love the fennel.
- Cheesy vegetable chowder will be mine. This weekend. Also, Lulu and I should be BFFs because she hates celery too.
Slow Cooker Triple Chocolate Brownies

October is slow cooker month on All Four Burners. All slow cooker, all the time!
Since I don’t want to bore you with solely stews, soups, and chilis, slow cooker month calls for creativity. Daring, some may say.
Hence, the selection of slow cooker brownies. With three types of chocolate.
Despite my distaste for chocolate.
