Pins of the week: Candy Apples

Since we’re not hosting our (once) annual Halloween party, I’m not much in the holiday spirit this year. Also, I’m overwhelmed by the panic/stress of moving.
But these beautiful candy apples are perking me up. Perhaps they will make the menu for next year’s party — woo-hoo!
- Oh my word. These black and red scary apples — made with tree branches, instead of lollipop sticks — are exceptional.
- Another version of the classic cinnamon candy apple. So pretty and shiny.
- Forget tradition. Bring on the caramel chocolate candy apples!
- Brilliance = miniature caramel candy apples.
- I had to throw in a slightly “healthier” version of candy apples…just because.
Slow Cooker Pumpkin Bread with Walnuts

This bread is a turd.
I don’t mean that in terms of taste. In fact, it was quite tasty and evocative of the season. Yay for pumpkin!
Rather, I refer solely to its physical appearance. The combination of a slow cooker with a quick bread recipe yields an oval brown lumpy turd-like outcome. I don’t recommend serving this as-is to company.

I have the moving blues.
Don’t get me wrong. I am thrilled to move back to California. Delighted. Primed.
It’s just that there’s a whole lot of packing in front of us. As I begin to repack our worldly belongings, I am racked with indecision: “Will I need this in the next three weeks?;” “Will there be a blizzard and my sweaters and boots are already packed?;” and, of course, the inevitable “Why do I own so very many things?!”
Pins of the week: Cookies

“Now, what starts with the letter C? Cookie starts with C!”
There’s a reason why the Cookie Monster was among my favorite characters on Sesame Street. He and I shared an affliction — a predilection — for cookies!
- I am such a sucker for classic crispy chocolate chip cookies.
- Apparently, you need to eat all of these strawberry shortcake cookies on the day you make them since they otherwise become soggy. Um, I don’t think that will be a problem.
- I know I claim not to like cinnamon, but am randomly in love with snickerdoodles. They are even better with the addition of pumpkin!
- Lemon cookies with lemon frosting? Yes, please!
- Homemade thin mints, you had me at hello.
