Tasty treats

- I love salt. Does this make me a supertaster? Actually, that just sounds painful. (NPR)
- Bomb pops! They are my favorite, except my people call them red, white, and blues. I need to clear out space in the freezer for these. (Serious Eats)
- You can make pork shoulder in the rice cooker? This is why I love (and fear) appliances. (Chow)
- I need more back-to-basics cookbooks. (The New York Times)

The two cookbooks I turn to most are:
1. The New Best Recipe (editors of Cook’s Illustrated)
2. How to Cook Everything (Mark Bittman)
I’m currently reading Ratio. It’s game-changing.
I was considering downloading Ratio on iphone. One of the reasons I love Julia Child (after reading her biography and getting her Vol 1 Mastering Art of French Cooking) is that she explains techniques and not just give a recipe. Learning the techniques of cooking has helped me to experiment more with recipes and food, rather than try hard to follow every step of a recipe. I diverge. I’d originally wanted to write that yes, the rice cooker is very versatile! I know my Mom uses it for rice and to steam food with the rice. It can operate like a slow cooker.
